Risk Assessment

With the re-write of British Standard 5839: Part 1 2002, and the existing Fire Precautions (Workplace) Regulations 1997 (amended 1999), there is even more need for all parties to consider the implications of a risk assessment as part of a fire fighting strategy. All of Haven Fire's work in the field is strictly in accordance with NEBOSH safety standards and certification. The typical areas covered are detailed below. Each inspection can obviously be tailored to individual company needs beyond this standard specification.

Fire Risk Assessment Procedures

  1. Assess escape routes (including fire doors, ironmongery, obstructions and potential hazards)
  2. Inspect maintenance records (of fire equipment, fire alarm, emergency lighting, evacuations and personnel fire training)
  3. Ensure adequate provision of fire fighting and fire detection equipment and emergency lighting
  4. Ensure adequate provision of fire safety signs and escape route signs
  5. Ensure emergency procedures are known by randomly selected staff
  6. Assess any specific fire risks in the workplace
  7. Take digital photographs of any potential hazards identified, and include them in the final report
  8. Write full report including priority action and general action to be taken
Further specific areas can be assessed upon request.
